Created in partnership with the National Taiwan Library, this picture book draws its storyline from the Library’s rare manuscript An Account of Drifting to Taiwan’s Choplan Island in 1803 (享和三年癸亥漂流臺灣チョプラン島之記).
Through lively prose and evocative art, the book retells the true adventures of a young Japanese castaway who washed ashore in early-19th-century Taiwan, capturing his encounters and discoveries across the island. Ideal for readers of all ages, Adventures in Formosa opens a window onto Taiwan’s past while celebrating cross-cultural curiosity and resilience.
